Cloud and Security Threats

There is no company that is too big or too small to worry about protected backup. We’ve seen Burger King’s twitter feed hacked; both Google Drive and Dropbox, each giants in online backup, have suffered security breaches in the past. In any online backup solution, security is a must. Fortunately, Norton Backup automatically backs up your photos and files with government level encryption.

Before we begin, I want to define a few terms. I will use the term “black hat” to describe hackers and other malicious forces; similarly, I will use “white hat” to describe the people and companies that combat them. Trojans, viruses, and malware are all specific terms for types of bad things that can happen to your computer or your data. White hats are always playing catch-up, but bugs can be fixed in a matter of hours, which is why it is important that you have the latest protection data. Also, a quick reminder: the biggest threat is often carelessness. Keeping the same password for your bank and Facebook account, or opening up an unfamiliar email can ruin you faster than any high-tech method ever could.

Black hats are constantly innovating new ways to trick, dupe, or brute force attack their way into getting private data. One trend that will never get old is spam. Black hats are using a fake CNN logo and a fake story about the new pope, for example, right now to spread malware called “TROJ_PIDIEF.SMXY.” There has been a Facebook Hoax that suggested in complex legalese that what you posted on Facebook did not belong to you. Fortunately, other than wasted time and unnecessary posts, no one was harmed by that. Whenever a new technology comes out, malware always follows. One nascent target is mobile devices. IT teams are always wary about the trend of BYOD. Black hats are capitalizing on popular apps like Instagram to delete your priceless photos of your cat or your big bacon sandwich. This vulnerability is magazined by unsecured mobile hotspots. Another popular target is Windows 8. Despite the built-in antivirus, Windows is too open and too popular to ever be 100% safe. On a national level, the United States and China have both accused each other of cyber-attacks.

Whether it’s a security breach, a failed component, or outright theft of your laptop, it is only a question of when, not if, you need online backup. Norton Online Backup is the best choice for online backup. Because Norton is well known for its security and virus protection, it is particularly well suited for your online backup needs. Norton online backup default settings copy your contacts, documents, favorites, financial files, pictures, and you can quickly add music, email and video with a simple check mark. You can manually add any file, or even copy your entire hard drive. Norton Backup keeps several copies of your files every time you save them, which is great if you accidentally save a mistake or delete a file. It works on Macs and PCs, and works well with the most popular web browsers. One major plus is that Norton offers 90-day backups, whereas most of their competitors only offer a 30-day backup. You can seamlessly migrate to a new computer, and share files, which are great features that may come in handy one day for you. Norton also has great value; a single subscription can accommodate up to five computers, unlike some competitors which charge two to five dollars per computer.

To begin a free 30-day trial subscription to Norton Online Backup, the most fun way is to go to Backup.com, and select one of the three key reasons why you should go with Norton. Then just click the “try me” button. The easiest way to start a trial is go to Norton and download the software. It’s set for a trial mode, and the page gives you instructions for IE and Firefox users, but other web browsers are just as intuitive to download and install the software. Once you do that, you’ll be on your way to backing up your priceless data.
